The MBC supports the organization ‘Pinag-Isang Lakas ng mga Tribo ng Mangyan’ (PLTM) to help the Mangyan tribes manage their farms and teach them how to survive, even with the competitors of the lowlanders, usually the “Tagalogs”.
Erwin was one of the first of Mangyan participants to undergo the Start Your Business training. Originally he wanted to start a transport company for the Mangyan banana industry. This was approved by PLTM. But unfortunately the island where Erwin lives, Mindoro, was badly hit by typhoon Nona last year. This typhoon caused severe damage to the banana trees, resulting in little or no harvest. And therefore no need for banana transport.
At this moment, in anticipation of the recovery of banana cultivation, he started a small shop with foodstuffs, a Commodity Store. In addition, Erwin is currently a volunteer trainer who also goes to other Mangyan tribes to teach them what he learned from MBC’s Start Your Business training.
