Project Description

Josephine Pangantihon (‘Pen’) is an example of a real entrepreneur. She started a small meal shop which serves take-out breakfast, lunch and snack meals, in partnership with a friend who also attended the SYB training.

Although they wrote a business plan, she and her friend were not prepared for the competition. New shops started up in the same area, following their example, serving the same meals. This left them too few customers than they had calculated. Unfortunately after two weeks of operation, they had to close down the shop.

But being a real entrepreneur, Pen did not give up. She decided to extend her existing sari-sari store by adding rice to her products. She got a loan from her savings group of 6,000 PHP ($125) to start her Rice Retail business and she is now selling rice.
