Project Description

The training and grant beneficiaries from Barangay San Roque started a mini grocery business to cater to the daily necessities of the community. Even though it started slow, it is now gaining traction and doing well. One of the advantages of the mini grocery business is that there are other sari-sari stores in the community who could, then, buy their supplies there. The group is hopeful that it will continue to keep growing in the coming months. The financial benefits have yet to be felt, but because of the training, they now understand how important it is to have a long-term vision.

What they learned

There is an excitement to do business amongst the members because they have learned new things. They have acquired a business mindset, and more specifically, they become aware of the need for discipline such as practiced in financial management. It has become a must to document, to save, to reinvest. Before, “laging nalulugi” or the business always fails because there was no structure nor system. They didn’t think these things were important. With a fresh start, they look forward to where these new business ventures, including their individual initiatives, could take them.

Investment in the future

This livelihood training project that MBC and PhilRads pushed through made a big impact in the community and in the individuals because without realizing it, they have learned stewardship. Now, as they work together and encourage one another, they are able to change the way they think and the way they do business.
