Project Description
When the tropical storm Urduja hit Biliran, the community in Brgy. Burabod suffered many loses, one of which is their livelihood. The training and grant the community received from MBC and PhilRads came in an opportune time to help the beneficiaries get up on their feet again. As some members expressed, they have been a huge help to them because not only did it give them the chance to start the group and individual businesses, but it also opened their eyes to the things that are important in running a business such as financial literacy, unity, cooperation, hard work, and faith.
Together
The group from Brgy. Burabod started is a mini talipapa or a small wet market where they sell meat, vegetables, and other food-related daily necessities. Two months after it opened, the business is doing well, and it is now planning to extend this month, Feb 2019. The members work together to buy pigs, chicken, vegetables, and then, they themselves butcher to sell meat to people in the community. They have to go to Naval to buy their vegetables there, but they are able to buy livestock from other people in the community which brings more business in their Barangay.
With help from above
Every Wednesday, the members gather to report on the progress of the business. They start with a prayer, then hear God’s word, and finally share their own experiences. If they have struggles and issues, they are able to discuss it and work it out. It’s a community working together to help each other.
